Tokyo reviews retrospective of films starring Iranian actress Taraneh Alidousti.

A retrospective of films starring Iranian actress Taraneh Alidousti has been reviewed in Japanese capital city of Tokyo.

Organized by Japan's national public broadcasting organization (NHK) in the Japanese capital, the organizer invited Alidousti to visit Tokyo and attend the event on June 6-10.

The program screened ‘About Elly’ and the Oscar-winning ‘The Salesman’, both directed by Asghar Farhadi.

Alidousti’s debut film ‘I’m Taraneh, 15’ directed by Rasoul Sadr-Ameli in 2002, and Mani Haqiqi’s 2012 tragicomedy ‘Modest Reception’ were debated during the retrospective.

The Iranian actress also attended some talk shows, describing her views on different issues concerning cinema, including one for Farhadi’s ‘The Salesman’ in Tokyo on June 7.

Born on January 12, 1984 in Tehran, the Crystal-Simorgh-winning Iranian actress Alidousti studied music at high school.

Later she participated in Amin Tarokh acting classes and made her cinematic debut with ‘I'm Taraneh, 15’ in 2000, for which she won the Crystal Simorgh for the best actress at the 20th Fajr Film Festival.

She has starred in many movies including ‘The Beautiful City’, ‘Fireworks Wednesday’, ‘Canaan’, ‘Doubt’, ‘Whatever God Wants’, ‘Life With Closed Eyes’, ‘At the End of 8th Street’, ‘The Shallow Yellow Sky’, and ‘Absolute Rest’ as well.

Alidousti became more popular after starring in the 2015 drama series ‘Shahrzad’ which was well received by a great number of the audiences.

She has won many international awards, including Best Actress award for ‘I'm Taraneh 15’ at Locarno International Film Festival 2002, Crystal Simorgh nomination for Best Actress for ‘The Beautiful City’ at the 22nd Fajr Film Festival, the Competition Award for ‘Modest Reception’ at Cinefan Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema 2012, and Special Mention of the International Jury for ‘Modest Reception’ at Vesoul International Film Festival 2013.
